The Diagnostic Coach
A Differential Diagnostics Coach for Technology Leaders
I partner with engineering directors, tech founders, and staff & principal engineers as their trusted strategic diagnostician.
I help technical leaders stop treating organizational symptoms and start solving root causes. The result is not just “better leadership” — it is dramatic clarity, protected cognitive bandwidth, and the systematic conversion of team friction into high-velocity execution.
The problem
In high-stakes technology environments, diagnosing the wrong problem — no matter how much effort follows — yields little progress.
Most leadership advice treats the symptom — a missed deadline, a tense 1:1, a stalled roadmap — without isolating the mechanism underneath. Effort goes up. Root cause stays untouched. The same friction resurfaces next quarter wearing a different name.
Diagnosis before intervention. We first get precise about what is actually happening and why. Then we talk about what to do.
Who you are
You’re already professionally and technically excellent. The bottleneck has moved — from technology to organization, from your own output to leverage through others. You don’t need someone to teach you how to lead. You need a thinking partner who sees the whole system with you — organization and technology together — so you can see exactly where it’s stuck.
How we work
We diagnose before we prescribe. Three principles:
- Signals over opinions. We start with what’s actually happening — how communication flows, where decisions stall — with the rigor you’d bring to debugging production.
- Leverage over effort. We find the one constraint where a small change unlocks outsized momentum — the 5% shift that yields 50% more velocity.
- Truth over comfort. Expect the exact truth about your blind spots and untapped strengths — the honesty that protects your time and your trajectory.
Who I am
I am an ICF-certified professional coach, working at the intersection of technology, leadership, and people.
My approach comes from years I spent inside the systems I now help leaders diagnose — building and running engineering organizations. My academic research focused on distributed systems, where the discipline of isolating root cause under complexity is the entire job.
